Quasar, which is a VODM (Virtual Original Design Manufacturer), said a local EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) company built the prototypes. Currently, Quasar is also designing a value-line mobile phone and a high-end smartphone. Besides GSM mobile phones, it is considering designing CDMA handsets as well. Customers are said to include Motorola, Nokia, Ericsson, Lucent, Hutchison, Nortel, Primus and the Indian wireless service providers Idea Cellular and Bharti Cellular. Presently, Quasar has 250 employees.
